Even though I call myself a cricketer, I am not one of serious talent and ability. It is safe to say that I haven't made it to the international level, let alone the county level.
So when I got the opportunity to play at one of the biggest county ground in the country, The Kia Oval.
My friend whom I work with, knows the CEO of the English Tea Shop, one of the sponsors of Surrey County Cricket Club.
Surrey ran a day called 'Sponsors\' Day' - this is where Surrey invite all their sponsors to the ground in order to play against each other in a 6-a-side tournament.
These sponsors included English Tea Shop, Kia, Greene King, Fidelity Energy, OCS - are the ones that I can remember.
First, we warmed up in the underground nets, then we proceeded to play in the tournement.
The ground was split into two pitches, either side of the main pitch. We were split into two 'leagues' and played each other once in a round robin format.
The best two teams from each 'league' then go into the semi finals, winners of which go against each other in the final.
As part of the English Tea Shop team, we managed to get to the final (we unfortunatly lost to Fidelty Energy - although there was some suspect umpiring :D).
It was totally unnecessary but I had my expenses paid for my travel to the ground. (Big shoutout to Angelo from the English Tea Shop). They paid me with a £50 note, which ticks off another thing on my bucketlist.
Thanks for reading :) x
